My views on a "Budget 1911"
No matter what manufacture you go with ask yourself what changes am I gonna make to make the weapon suit my needs?
Replace sites
Change out springs
Change hammer or trigger
Change mainspring housing
Have the gun ported and feed ramp work done
Who's gonna do the work etc.
Then do the math to find out how much your gonna spend to get the weapon where you want it to be and the "Budget" gun may not be so much of a deal.

Just my 2 cents.

Carried the EMP for the first time today in a many many months. Its really a great conceal carry piece, but I've gotten so use to carrying the full size 1911s I felt like i was missing something...2 inches!

Picked up an EMP in 9mm a week ago and like it much more than the .40 EMP I have.  Your right about the weight difference of the EMP and a full size 1911.

.308 is one of the more balanced/efficient (not over bore) cartridges and considered to be one of the most intrinsically (impressive word for naturally, eh?) accurate cartridges. Availability doesn't hurt, but it's not the biggest factor. It is the most consistently accurate cartridge in factory guise. Serious bench rest shooters use exotic hand loaded super efficient cartridges like 6mm PPC or 6.5mmTCU. You have to form those cases and hand load.

I know TMI

Wouldn't you need to limit yourself to 10 paper clips in your hand at a time though?
