Trayvon Martin case prompts Houston lawmaker to push Texas law’s change

District 147 Rep. Garnet Coleman

State Rep. Garnet Coleman, D-Houston, has set his sights on revising Texas’ “Castle Doctrine,” similar to Florida’s “stand your ground” law linked to the Trayvon Martin slaying.

KHOU-TV reports on its website that Coleman plans to introduce a bill to change the “shoot first” aspects in the Texas law.

“All it takes is a tragedy for people to understand that something needs to be changed,” Coleman says. “And I don’t think any legislator in this state wants to be perceived as allowing somebody the ability to shoot someone without good cause.”

Coleman says a 2007 change that eliminated a “duty to retreat before using deadly force” clause in the law makes it too easy for Texans to shoot first.

He cites the case of Joe Horn, the Pasadena man who shot and killed two burglars leaving his neighbor’s house in November 2007. The grand jury refused to indict him, and he was never charged with a crime.

South Texas College of Law professor Gerald Treece tells KHOU that Coleman’s proposal doesn’t stand much of a chance.

“I don’t have to retreat before I defend myself,” he said of the interpretation of Texas law even prior to the Castle Doctrine update in 2007.

“I don’t have to say, ‘Deadly force is going to be used, I think I’ll retreat.’ You can be a man in Texas and stand up for yourself without retreating,” said Treece.

Forget this FOOL.  He actually said these words:

"The 2007 change that eliminated a “duty to retreat before using deadly force” clause in the law makes it too easy for Texans to shoot first".  I just can't get past the words "duty to retreat".  If our founders could be resurrected for just one day they'd probably say, "please....just put me back in my grave...Good Heavens!!".  "Duty" to "Retreat" huh....

It is your "duty" to step aside and let Thug Crackhead to ransack your place, victimize your wife and/or kids, and steal all of your stuff....because those are the ones who vote for Dems so they are the ones who will get to keep their rights...or some crap like that..

I can tell you this much, these liberals are pushing harder and harder, and whether we try to maintain peace and order or not, it's getting harder and harder not to just smack the p*ss out of them the minute they start their never ending crybaby sessions....

So ummm...let me get this straight...you are suggesting that we should be required to let them SHOOT US in our home....BEFORE shooting them?  Cause, ya know...we'd survive a gun shot wound in our friggin pajamas and all....this sounds like a GREAT IDEA!!  They shoot us...we are then allowed to grab our gun...while bleeding to death in our own bedroom and all...and then shoot them...but be careful and be sure to do everything you can not to take a life....sure...I'll do everything I can...I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and tell them I have a gun and it is pointed right at their forehead....then it is THEIR "duty" to retreat...whatever happens to them after that is their own fault...

This piece of complete Democratic trash has ZERO business holding ANY public office and for that matter ZERO business even RESIDING in the Great State of Texas.  GTFO!  And take your armed guards and hodie nation with you...LOSER!

In fact, go ahead and have your "Hoodie Nation", let that goofball pea brain fool "President" Obama run that "nation" into the ground.  Let the TRUE Americans have ours!

This is TEXAS.  We need to take a serious look at DERELICTS like this and be sure we do whatever we can to keep Texas in NON-DEMOCRAT hands!!!!....this nonsense may force the rest of the country to nod their heads in agreement and say, "Yes.. we are HORRIBLE people and we should be punished, for all of eternity" , but here in Texas we know what right and wrong is...we don't need some GD liberal hypocrite (oxymoron) telling us it is our "duty" to give criminals more rights to victimize us!!!! :bangheadonwall:

I don't think so either, and to tell you the truth these laws that have come out so far this year make it really difficult to even acknowledge these idiots as REAL lawmakers..

But what do you really think about Coleman?  :th_thicon_lol:

You are certainly right.  Some people say this uproar is all about changing that Home/Castle law everywhere.
That may be partly true - opportunists jumping on.
But people like Spike Lee, Nation Islam, Black Panthers....I am convinced that by promoting race war, death and suffering - they are doing Satan's work - literally.
How's that song go?  "Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name..."

The devil is well pleased, no doubt.  Those black racists are sure not concerned about 'Justice' because they don't care a bit about White victims of Black violence.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?  No such thing.  Everyone knows you can't be a racist unless you are a white male.     That is the craziest thing EVER.  You make more laws for the the law abiding because too many of the CRIMINALS are getting hurt?  Ummmmm, that's  :th_nuts: .  That SHOULD BE THE LAW, break the law, get hurt.  Break the law bad enough, get shot.  Breaking into someone's home is for sure one of the ones that should be considered bad enough to get you shot.  I mean like even after the fact.  Someone breaks in, you shoot and miss but scare them off.  Cops catch them a few hours later.  "Oh yeah Mr. B&E, you left something at that house you broke into."  **Gunshot to the knee**  Depending on what crime you commit determines the cop's shot placement.   :rocknroll2:

Oh I could list crimes and shot placements!!!!!!!!!!!  Involving robbery and shots to knees, flash mobs and shots to the hands and feet, sexual assault and shots to the...........................we all know where that bullet goes, murder and shots to the FACE, and etc etc etc.  Lmao.  Ammo is MUCH cheaper than prisons.  Traffic violations would involve the skinny end of a fishing pole, Bill Engvall style!  :rocknroll2:  Get where you're headed and people see the red mark on your neck and it's "Oh, messed up on the way over huh?"   :th_thicon_lol: :th_thicon_lol: :th_thicon_lol:

I agree,  except the traffic violation part.    Figure would have few repeat offenders.    And no free medical care,  you break law, get shot, figure out how to pay for it on your own.
