.22 revolver suggestions
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:26:47 AM »
I'd like to have a 22 revolver with a flip out barrel for some range fun. I have a S&W Model 10-7 which is fun, but my wallet and my grip strength limit me to one box a trip.  I'd like to extend my range visits by switching to a .22 of similar design. What would you suggest?

A .500 S&W in 4" barrel.

Oh, wait, you said you wanted a smaller gun, not bigger. Silly me.

I'd suggest a Taurus 941 in stainless. :th_thicon_lol: It's 8 rounds of .22 Magnum in a standard sized pistol and it's cheap enough that it won't break the bank; they're literally oozing out of the woodwork over on Gunbroker, and in multiple barrel/finish sizes/types. The 2" model looks kinda like your 10-7 too.

Does anyone have one they'd never sell?  I mean has anyone found a 22 revolver that they liked so much that there is no way they'd ever sell it.

I love my SW 617,   10 shots.     Like my Heritage 22sa,  but it dont see as many rounds because takes longer to load.

Ruger .22, my grandpa has a 6 inch one, with cylinders for .22LR and .22mag, its what I learned to shoot on, and its very accurate and reliable.

Don't get your hopes up on that there gun. I'll wager there'll probably be a dump truck load of people saying they've had no problems with theirs, but I know from experience that the Stainless finish on those 101's seems like it's literally only skin deep. It pits easily, which ain't good for a gun that'll be covered in practice-grade gun powder pretty frequently. Your mileage may vary.

Will never sell this one.  I have not found a better .22 (revolver) than this one.

Oh, oops, didnt see that you wanted a swing out cylinder. Well, For a .22, I would forgo a swing out cylinder, if you have the standard load one at a time, it'll make you be more precise with your shots vs. just shooting to fast through them

Not sure,  mine was the $99 special for black friday at academy few years back.   Didn't really need another 22 but for 107.24 OTD had to not get one.

I had a Ruger Single Six and sold it because loading one at a time became a major PITA.  I'd definitely go with a swing out cylinder.

Narrowed down to either a new S&W 617, Ruger SP101, or a used S&W Model 17. I'll decide this weekend. Maybe.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm putting off the .22 for a while.  Got a great deal on a Spartan III on gunbroker so my firearm fund has diminished once again.  Funny how that happens.

Before I emptied my wallet, I had settled on the 617 like many have suggested, but it still felt too heavy in my hand for end of the range trip fun.  The only older models I could find were all on gubroker and I have a hard time committing to a used 22 without seeing it in person first.  I found one Rossi, but felt it was overpriced.

Perhaps this will become my excuse to go to every gunshow around.

Thanks for the responses.
