I am so done with Taurus
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:23:27 AM »
I had my second catastrophic failure on my Taurus Model 85 .38 snub revolver today. Can't pull trigger, can't eject cylinder. Total lock-up. This is ridiculous. Back to the factory she goes...  :th_thicon_cry:

I put a note in with the gun to please send me a semi-auto instead of a revolver, should they decide to replace instead of repair. It will still be a Taurus, but at least I will be "rotating my poisons" so to speak.  :th_KO:

NEVER A NEW TAURUS AGAIN! Luckily they only got $150 from me in 1988. Never a penny more.

The irony is... I love the feel of the trigger... until it seized.  :bangheadonwall:

Do you know what is causing the lock-up? Carbon? Bullet un-seated? Unseated Primer? Internal breakage? I'll buy it from you for $100 if I can find 5 1988 $20s  :th_thicon_question:

I would be surprized. I would be mad as hell too. The things that would not surprize me would be rough and/or stacking trigger pull, end shake and bad timing. That amounts to bad or quick fitting of the parts. I doubt those would cause the lock up of the revolver.

I was dry firing with those spring loaded plastic cartridges designed to safeguard the firing pin. It is the gun's fault.

A nice refreshing glass of lemonade might be a consolation, but these are sh** lemons, the contents are brown. The FFL wanted to know if I wanted to pay extra for UPS signature conformation, and I said, "No, part of me wants it to get lost and not come back".  :scream3:

I have a Taurus 1911 45 cal and it shoot so sweet. Never a misfire or anything.  But then mine is only two years old, with about 2000 rounds through it. Sorry your having trouble. When you get it back ,sell it.

If my Taurus 85 has to be replaced, I'm thinking of talking to the manufacturer and trying to get a completely different model sent to me as a replacement. I noticed Rusty sold one of these 24/7 semi-autos (see below). The Internet reviews actually sound OK, but some say that the trigger is "spongy", not very crisp, which gives me some pause. Does anyone know about these guns first-hand?

Hard to believe I am going to admit this on this board, but I have a 24/7 Pro DS Titanium & a 24/7 OSS.  I took both to the range after I bought them and ran 200 rds though each of them without an issue.  Triggers are spongy, maybe sprongy would be a better term.  I would guess that's standard equipment in a cheap gun.  I had a Sigma that was about the same.  I have been keeping a close eye on them, neither one has burst into flames or fallen apart on the shelf.

Yet.

Seriously, there are better guns.  I like the hell out of the OSS for it's ergonomics.  I wish I had bought another one in .45 when Buds had them for $325.  The Pro is light and handy as hell, it goes offroading with me where I really don't like to take my more expensive guns.  I have also loaned them out on occasion, something I won't do with the others.

Thanks for the comments, that helps.  :th_thicon_idea: There are better guns, yes, but if I can get The Bull in Florida to send me one at no cash outlay to me, that would be a good thing. I've only got $150 into the original Taurus, bought in 1988. Well, $150 and the UPS and FFL transfer fees.

I still own three Taurus guns, but I have had 7. One, a PT-92, that I traded was flawless but the other three all had horrible malfunctions and I doubt I would trust another one. Maybe another PT-92 but nothing else.
