Brown Recluse spider
« on: August 17, 2012, 02:53:18 PM »
These are some pictures of a brown recluse I took in my house.  I have been infested with these guys for about 15 years.  Luckly no one has been bitten yet.

I refuse to open the link. I almost didn't open this thread. I'm a big girl when it comes to spiders. If my house was infested I'd light it on fire. Lol

Yes, I have no desire to see such photos either....

I need a larger version of that Salt shooting bug killer gun (shown on another thread here)  - and I'm gonna start my own spider killing business...  :P

Then the next time you see one of these scrappy little guys in your house, leave him be.  In fact, welcome them into your house if they're not already there.

Phidippus audax, aka "Jumping Spider".  They're not only harmless to humans, they also hunt and kill...among other little nasties...Brown Recluse Spiders.  Plus it's just plain cool to watch them seem to defy gravity while jumping from spot-to-spot on your ceiling.

Yep - while I'm running around with shoes to smash things, my wife is telling me the exact same thing. I'm slowly learning to live with them.

What about a vertically challenged person with a spider,   do you just ball up in the corner then?

If they are outside then they have free reign and I won't kill them.  If they are inside the house, then they must die a slow painful death.

Mostly I put stuff like that in jars and mail them to my daughter at A&M.  She is an entomology major.  My wife is happy summer is over, now our freezer is no longer jammed with frozen bugs waiting to make the trip to College Station.
Honest, my guns were all lost in a croquet accident.

Not fer nothin' here, but spiders also eat a lot of skeeters, West Nile-having skeeters. :th_thicon_idea:

Leave 'em be,  and put out bird seed and water for the local feathered population and you'll have a metric ton less of mosquitos and flies.

When in doubt, let nature take her course. :icon_wink:

I went down to a snake farm here in San Antonio a few years back.

You should have seen the SIZE of the things they had crawling around in there; it was intense. While I wouldn't take my photo with any of the spiders or bugs they have in there (including the emperor scorpions which are supposedly easy to hold once handle-tamed), I may go back one of these days to get a picture with the 23-foot Boa Constrictor they had hanging out in there. :sick2:
