Want to do an Archangel build
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:51:21 AM »
I saw the kit at academy yesterday, and after some research, it seems like a popular and fun build.

The kit is about $135, so if i can source an inexpensive receiver/barrel. i should be able to put together a nice plinker for a good price.

so first question. how is the kit? are there multiple makers? are some better than others? anything i should know?

second question. can i get just the receiver and barrel? is that all i need?

If i cant, where can i get the best bang for the buck on a 10/22?

thanks in advance.

Save your breath, and buy a tac-sol barrel, volquartsen trigger kit, and hogue overmold stock, and be amazed as you make accurate 100yd shots on small things like tiny birds and rats and squirrels.

The single best thing to change about a ruger 10/22 is the trigger, plus it is an easy upgrade and not terribly expensive. That Arch Angel stuff is "tacti-cool. It's like adding new wheels to a car, it will look good, but does not make it better. If you just have to have the AR look why not get the 22lr AR. You most likely will spend less. If its just for fun enjoy building it. It really does look good.

I bought this used which had a lot of work done to it already:

I then changed the stock and some of the internal work on it.  They are really easy to work on, and now the finished build looks like this;

You don't even need to buy the full volquartsen trigger kit. Just buy the VQ hammer replacement kit and buy some Tech Sights with the saved cash. :)

My brother has one, it isn't too hard to take apart to clean, it is just time consuming. Also, he loses zero after taking it apart and putting it back together. So he has to settle with not cleaning it (barrel is still accessible) to keep his zero. I carved my polymer stock from my ruger 10/22 to make the barrel free-float as well as added some VQ trigger parts, did the bolt release mod, and added some tape foam to reduce vibrations. I kid you not, I get 1.5" groups with CCI blazers at 100 yards with my Leapers 6-24x zoom scope. And it can be taken down with just unscrewing the receiver screw.

Hello i'm new to the forums, i have the archangel kit and if you need one i know a guy who sells them for $100 if you live around richmond Tx. here is mine complete, i put a $20 aluminum barrel shroud on mine and i love it. Have not taken it apart, i use the powder blast and air compressor to clean it. Use the powder blast that is safe for polymer

I had a beater 10/22 lying around so I decided to spend the 100 bucks and it looks cool but its bulky and cumbersome. I wouldn't go out of my way to build one, but if you have a crappy old 10/22 you wanna spruce up its worth a 100 investment.
